Charges Laid in Violent Break-In

The Calgary Police Service has charged three people in connection with a violent home break-in where a woman was injured.

At approximately 5:10 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 22, 2014, a woman awoke after hearing noises in her kitchen in the 0-100 block of Chapala Landing S.E. She came downstairs thinking her children were moving around, but was instead confronted by three people who had broken in. A male resident also came downstairs when he heard the commotion and was also challenged by the suspects.

During the melee, the female resident received a slash would to her arm. Bear spray was also discharged by the offenders during the incident. The offenders were able to flee the area before police arrived.

Police have now charged two men and a woman in connection with the break-in and assault.

Sarah Marie RYAN, 18, and Tasso Athanassior WRIGHT, 24, are charged with one count each of break and enter, assault causing bodily harm, and assault with a weapon. WRIGHT also faces two counts of uttering threats.

A 16 year old male who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act has also been charged in connection with this incident.
