Previous release:

The Calgary Police Service has one man in custody and charges are pending following an incident in the city's southeast.

At approximately 5:45 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, police were called to the 10,000 block of Macleod Trail S.E., after a vehicle was stolen with a baby inside.

The vehicle was left running with the doors unlocked while the driver was inside a nearby store. The 10-month-old boy was left in a car seat in the back of the vehicle. The offender walked up to the vehicle and drove off with the child inside.

The vehicle was located around 6:10 p.m., in the 9800 block of Horton Road S.W., when the offender flagged down a passerby and asked them to call 911. Police and EMS responded to the scene.

The child was assessed by EMS as a precaution and was fortunately unharmed during the incident. The offender was arrested at the scene. Charges are pending.

Police discourage anyone from leaving a vehicle with a child inside unattended for any reason, especially if the vehicle is running.
