Charges in Property Damage

The Calgary Police Service has laid 52 charges against two teens in a series of vehicle vandalisms that occurred in the city’s southeast last week.

On Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, just after 3 a.m., police were called to the community of Cranston by a resident who heard a loud bang and observed a young man hanging out of the passenger window of an SUV with an object in his hand that looked like a baton. The youth hit the rear window of the car and then sped off.

Responding officers patrolled the area and noticed numerous vehicles with damaged driver-side mirrors. It was later determined that a series of similar offences in the McKenzie Lake area were also related.

Following an investigation, two 16-year-old males, who cannot be named, have each been charged with 25 counts of property damage under $5,000, as well as 1 count each of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The youth will appear in court on February 21, 2014.
