Charges in January pedestrian fatality

The Calgary Police Service has laid charges in a pedestrian fatality that occurred last month.

On Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at approximately 11:45 a.m., a woman was backing a 1998 Dodge Ram truck out of a driveway in front of a house in the 8500 block of 48 Avenue N.W.

A 91 year-old man with a walker, was on the sidewalk, behind the truck. The truck struck the pedestrian who became entangled with the rear hitch of the truck.

The man was dragged approximately 125 meters before detaching from the truck. The truck continued away from the scene without stopping.

A short time later the truck was located in the 6300 block of Bowness Road N.W. The driver was unaware of what had occurred and had carried on to her destination.

The man was transported to hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.

Jacoba Jean DAVIDSON, 26, of Calgary is charged with unsafe backing. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, Apr. 28, 2014.
