Charges in Fatal Collision

The Calgary Police Service has charged a young offender in the fatal collision that occurred at Bow Bottom Trail.

Just after 2 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, police responded to a motor vehicle collision at Bow Bottom Tr. and 146 Avenue S.E.

When they arrived on scene they found a 21-year-old deceased male pinned under a Chrysler 300.

The Chrysler was traveling southbound on Bow Bottom Tr. While attempting to make a right hand turn on 146 Avenue SE, the vehicle lost control side slipping and eventually striking the curb. The vehicle rolled over once with the 21-year-old male being ejected.

The remaining three occupants fled the scene but have since been located. A 16-year-old male and 17-year-old female sustained minor injuries.

Both alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the collision.

Investigators have determined the 17-year-old female was the driver of the vehicle. Under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, she cannot be named. Investigators also determined she was not the holder of a valid operator’s license, and had taken the vehicle without the consent of the owner.

She has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, hit and run, operating a motor vehicle without holding a valid operator’s license and theft of a vehicle without consent.
