Charges in Distraction Thefts

The Calgary Police Service has laid more than 40 charges in relation to a series of distraction thefts.

Since March of 2013, approximately 40 cases of distraction theft occurred at businesses throughout the city. In each of these cases, either two or three people would enter a business, and distract the clerk while the remaining parties would typically steal electronics, cell phones, or cash from either the till or employee area.

Following an investigation by the District 8 Operations Team and the District 8 General Investigative Section, two women have been charged. However the investigation is ongoing and charges against a man are pending.

Jessica FLETCHER, 25, of Calgary, has been charged with seven counts of theft of property under $5,000. FLETCHER will next appear in court on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014.

Jocelynn SALIBA, 24, of Calgary, has been charged with nine counts of theft under $5,000, 25 breaches of recognizance, as well as eight criminal warrants and two Traffic Safety Act warrants. SALIBA appeared in court on Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014.
