Charges in Bank Robbery

The combined efforts of the Calgary Police Service and Edmonton Police Service have resulted in one man being charged in relation to a bank robbery that occurred yesterday.

On Wednesday, March 20, 2013, just before 10:30 a.m., a man entered the CIBC bank located in the 5600 block of 4 Street N.W. The man’s face was disguised and he was allegedly armed with a canister of what appeared to be bear spray.

The man verbally threatened the bank staff and demanded money. He fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

As a result of information provided by the EPS Robbery Unit, Calgary police were able to quickly identify a possible suspect.

At 1:15 p.m. that same afternoon, members of the EPS arrested a man as he returned to their city.

Clinton Peter BIEVER, 41, of Edmonton, has been charged with two counts of robbery, one count of having a face masked or disguised while committing an indictable offence, one charge of possession of a weapon for the commission of an indictable offence, one charge of possession of a prohibited weapon and one charge of possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to a prohibition order.

BIEVER will next appear in court in Calgary on Tuesday, March 26, 2013.
