Charges – Mall break-in

The Calgary Police Service has charged one person in relation to a mall break-in, while continuing to look for a second suspect.

Just before 4 a.m., on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, CPS responded to numerous intrusion alarms activated at Market Mall, located in the 3600 Block of Shaganappi Trail N.W.

A search of the mall's exterior determined that a vehicle was responsible for creating an entry point through the main north entrance to the shopping centre, causing significant structural damage.

Suspects then broke into Jewels by Maxime’s, taking a number of high-end watches, believed to have a total value of approximately $139,000. Damage to the mall was estimated at $150,000.

There were no reports of injuries.

Thanks to information from the public, a white Dodge Journey, believed to be the vehicle involved, was located in the nearby community of Varsity.

It is believed two suspects were involved in this incident.

Calgary police have executed arrest warrants on a man who was in police custody in Coquitlam, BC, on an unrelated matter.

The man was transported to Calgary on Friday, March 15, 2013, and interviewed by officers late that night.

Samual Jacob CHAPMAN (AKA Samuel CHAPMAN), 27, of Coquitlam, BC, has been charged with two counts of break and enter – shop and one count of possession of stolen property over $5,000.

His first scheduled court appearance was today, Monday, March 18, 2013.

The investigation continues, and police continue to look for a second suspect.
