Charges - stolen truck/dangerous driving incident

The Calgary Police Service has charged a youth after a stolen vehicle was seen driving dangerously through parts of Calgary yesterday, Tuesday, May 7, 2013.

While the exact route of the vehicle is being determined, a blue Ford truck was first spotted on southbound Deerfoot Trail around Glenmore Trail S.E., at approximately 8:30 a.m. It continued though parts of southeast and southwest Calgary.

While in the 1500 block of 26 Avenue S.W., the truck rammed a CPS vehicle and struck another as it attempted to flee the area.

The vehicle was then stopped and the driver was taken into custody. EMS attended for precautionary reasons, but there were no serious injuries.

The truck was determined to be stolen.

At times, the vehicle was seen travelling at high speeds, sometimes on the wrong side of the road, and on sidewalks or road shoulders. It is believed the truck was involved in hit-and-run collisions during the incident, but it is not known how many.

A 15-year-old male has been charged with three counts of assault with a weapon, and one count each of possession of stolen property over $5,000, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, hit and run as well as several offences under the provincial Traffic Safety Act.

The accused cannot be named under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Anyone whose vehicle may have been hit during this time is asked to report the damage in person at a CPS district office or the front counter of the Westwinds Campus Headquarters Building, 5111 47 St. N.E.
