Ceremony teaches students about citizenship and embracing diversity

On Friday, March 15, 2013, the Calgary Police Service, (CPS), Calgary Board of Education (CBE) and Citizenship and Immigration Canada are joining forces to celebrate some of Calgary’s newest citizens and encourage all Calgarians to embrace our diversity.

Calgary is a very desirable community for people from around the world to move to because of our ability to work and live in harmony, celebrating both our similarities and our differences.

Students at H.D. Cartwright School will have an opportunity to learn an important lesson in citizenship through this ceremony. Citizenship is one of four areas the CBE focuses on for student development as each student works toward completing high school with a foundation of learning necessary to thrive in life, work and continued learning.

"Calgary is a richer community because of our ability to embrace our diversity,” says Deputy Chief Trevor Daroux.” As a police service, we believe the key to solving problems in our community is being able to work together to find solutions. We all share a common goal – keeping Calgary a safe place in which to live, work and raise our families”.
