Calgary Police Commission Citizen Survey launch

Calgary (July 02, 2014) - The 2014 Calgary Police Commission Citizen Survey, to determine public experience with and perception of the Calgary Police Service, is underway. The Citizen Survey process begins July 2, 2014, running through to August 26, 2014.
During the survey period, Calgarians, selected through random sampling, will receive telephone calls from Illumina Research Partners, on both landlines and cellphones, asking a variety of questions addressing satisfaction with the Calgary Police Service and perceptions of crime and safety in Calgary.
Commission Chair, Rodney Fong said, “The Calgary Police Commission Citizen Survey provides us with valuable information and feedback, directly from citizens, that we can use to ensure the Calgary Police Service is meeting our community’s needs. While results have continued to be positive since we took over the survey process in 2008, it is important to never take for granted the support our Police Service receives from the public. The Citizen Survey allows the Calgary Police Commission to ensure that the exceptional service we receive continues.”
As part of its oversight role to provide efficient and effective policing, the Calgary Police Commission took over the Citizen Survey process from the Calgary Police Service in 2008. This enables the Calgary Police Commission to better communicate with residents of Calgary and respond to policing concerns they may have.
The Calgary Police Commission provides civilian oversight to the Calgary Police Service. Under the Police Act the Calgary Police Commission establishes policies to provide for efficient and effective policing; in consultation with the chief of police, allocates funds provided by City Council; and monitors the complaint process.
