Bank robberies - Calgarians reminded to use caution

The Calgary Police Service is investigating a series of robberies at financial premises this week. In each of these incidents police believe the suspects are monitoring activity from the parking lots, approaching victims as they exit the bank.

On Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, a man was entering a bank at Sunridge Mall when he was confronted by three men. One of the men pointed a gun at the victim during the robbery, striking him on the head with a weapon. The bank manager came to the aide of the victim and was also confronted. The three men escaped in a green van.

Later that day, a victim walked out of a bank on the 9600 block of Macleod Trail when he was approached by two men. The offenders indicated they had a weapon and proceeded to rob the victim of cash before fleeing on foot.

On Tuesday, Dec.3, 2013, a 72-year-old woman was leaving a bank on Midlake Boulevard S.E., when she was followed by an unknown man. Once the woman reached her vehicle, the offender grabbed her purse, demanding she hand it over to him. The victim refused and the offender slowly walked way.

Calgarians are reminded to use caution and take the following measures to ensure their safety:

• Be aware of your surroundings
• Do not carry large amounts of cash
• Keep cash hidden when entering and exiting a bank
• Deposit bags should not be carried in plain sight
• If you are making business deposits on a daily basis, change up your routine by visiting the bank at different times
