Assault charge

A woman has been charged with assault with a weapon following an investigation by the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit.

At approximately 9:40 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, police responded to a location in the 100 block of 28 Avenue N.E. Upon arrival, they discovered the body of a man in a vehicle. The circumstances appeared suspicious so the Homicide Unit was called in to lead the investigation.

Officers determined that a group of acquaintances had gathered at a nearby home on the evening of Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013. An altercation took place within the residence. One man sustained life-threatening injuries and fled the area.

An autopsy determined Duane Gordon LAYBOURNE, 42, of Calgary died as a result of a shooting.

Christopher Michael BURR, 24, of Calgary was charged with second-degree murder on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013.

The ongoing investigation revealed that, during the altercation, a woman deployed bear spray at LAYBOURNE. This assault occurred prior to his death.

Kylie Meagan McKINLEY-KOCH, 21, of Calgary, is charged with one count of assault with a weapon.

McKINLEY-KOCH was arrested on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 and made her first court appearance this morning, Friday, March 1, 2013.
