Arrest made in relation to Elbow Drive shooting

Police have made an arrest in relation to the shooting incident that occurred late in the evening, on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., Jan. 14, 2013, police responded to reports of gunshots in a residence located in the 600 block of Elbow Drive S.W. Upon arrival, they found a 49-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. The man was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Following an extensive investigation and the execution of a search warrant in a residence in southeast Calgary, on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, a man was arrested and a firearm was recovered.

Michael ONISCHUK, 25, of Calgary, has been charged with:

Aggravated assault
Assault with a weapon
Unlawful possession of a firearm
Weapons dangerous
Using a firearm in the commission of an offence
Break and enter commit

ONISCHUK has been remanded in custody.
