Highland Park Homicide Update

The victim in a suspicious death that occurred on Wednesday morning has been identified following the completion of an autopsy.

At approximately 9 a.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, police were called to the 4200 block of Centre Street N.W., for a check on welfare. An injured man was found outside a residence and taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. He succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

Following an autopsy, the deceased has been identified as Frank BURTON, 56, of Calgary. BURTON died as a result of multiple stab wounds. Police are now treating this case as a homicide, the city’s 22nd of the year.

This incident is not thought to be random, however, a specific motive is yet to be determined.

BURTON had a history of mental illness and in the past put himself in vulnerable positions with people. As a result of this, investigators are open to the possibility that this may be the motive behind this attack.

Several ground searches of the area have been completed by officers, however, residents are being asked examine their yards and report any weapons or suspicious clothing.

Police are also releasing the description a man considered a suspect in this case. He has darker skin, a stocky build and is approximately 5’10” tall. At the time of the offence, he was wearing a grey hoodie.

The home where the attack took place has eight separate suites and investigators have yet to speak all of the residents.

Anyone who lived in the home and hasn’t been interviewed by officers is asked to contact the Calgary Police Service non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers anonymously using any of the following methods:
