Two Boys Rescued After Falling Through Ice

Firefighters were called out at 6:30 this evening for a report of two boys in the water after falling through the ice on a pond located near 28 street and 30 avenue se. The pond is in Valley View Park in West Dover. The firefighters arrived to find 2 boys approximately 10 years of age near the pond wet and shivering. A passerby notice the boys in the water and managed to pull them to safety using a rope. The two had been playing on the ice covered pond when they fell through. Had they not been seen by the rescuer, they may have gone unnoticed and would not have been able to self rescue. The pond is believed to be 1.5 to 2 meters deep. The pair were turned over to AHS cold, wet, and reluctant to have their families informed of their adventure. The Fire Department would like to remind Citizens that ice this time of year is thin and brittle. It is not safe for people or pets no matter how thick it appears.
