maltese cross
At approximately four this morning, Calgary Fire Crews responded to reports of a house fire in the 800 block of Matador Crescent NE. Fire fighters arrived to find smoke billowing from the basement of the single story, single family dwelling. All three occupants of the home had evacuated the home without injury. Crews retrieved a cat and bird from the home that were also uninjured. The three female residents of the building ages 51, 49 and 24 were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors installed on both levels of the home. There were no injuries reported at this incident. Cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Fire fighters would like to remind the citizens of Calgary that smoke detectors should be installed in every sleeping room, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of the home, including the basement. Larger homes may require additional smoke alarms to provide a minimum level of protection.
