Fire Crews Respond to a Fire in the SE

maltese cross
At approximately 9 this morning Calgary Fire Crews responded to the 4000 block of 17 St SE for reports of a building fire. The first arriving Fire Captain called for an additional alarm while responding to the call when large amounts of black smoke were noticed originating from the area. Crews arrived to find a large rubbish container fully involved in flames. The container was located against the side of the building and there was a concern that the fire could find a way into the structure. Fire crews pressurized the air in the building using mechanical ventilation fans in an effort to keep the smoke and flames contained to the exterior of the business. A city building inspector was called to the scene to determine the stability and safety of the structure. The business was not open this weekend and no one needed to be evacuated. No injuries were reported at this incident. Cause of the blaze is under investigation.
