CALGARY FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONSES TO A DUPLEX FIRE ON BOWNESS RD NW

At approx. 11:00 pm this evening, the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 4300 block of Bowness RD NW. Upon arrival, the crews found a single story duplex with no smoke or visible flames showing. A quick size up performed by the Captain and crew, revealed that there was in fact a fire in one of the two residences.  The crew entered the home and performed a primary search which led to the discovery of an unconscious woman in the basement. The Lady was quickly removed from the house and turned over to EMS. Although there was not a large volume of visible flames, the house was heavily charged with thick black smoke.  Utilizing ventilation fans, the smoke was removed from the duplex and the fire was extinguished. Although there is extensive smoke damage, the fire was contained to the room of origin. The occupants of the adjacent duplex were evacuated from their home with no injuries. At the present time, crews remain on scene and the investigation into the cause of the fire will begin once the area is deemed safe.
