Calgary Fire Department responds to kitchen fire in Temple

At approximately 12:45 this afternoon, the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 100 block of Templeton Circle N.E. for reports of a house fire. A meter reader in the area saw smoke and flames coming from the back the home and called 911. On arrival, fire crews found that the fire which had originated in the kitchen, had extended into other rooms throughout the four level split home.  The entire home sustained heavy smoke damage and is uninhabitable, however, rooms with closed doors were less significantly impacted by the smoke. The occupant told the on scene CFD Fire Investigator that he had been cooking with oil which had ignited. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire.

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind Calgarians that cooking should never be left unattended. If a fire starts in a pot on the stove, quickly and carefully slide a lid on to the pot and turn the element off. Do not remove the pot and let it cool down in place. If you are not comfortable doing this, or you feel you are putting yourself in danger, immediately alert all residents to the fire, leave the house quickly and call 911 from a safe phone.
