Calgary Fire Department Responds to House Fire in NE

At approximately 1:05 a.m. the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 10 block of Castlebury Court N.E. for reports of a house fire. Upon arrival crews discovered a detached family house fully involved with fire with extension to a second house. A second alarm was called for additional resources due to the volume of fire present involving the two homes. A total of 17 occupants were evacuated, five from each of the involved homes and seven from homes adjacent to the two involved houses and sheltered from the elements in a Calgary Transit bus. The care of two residents, an adult male and a child was transferred to EMS. The seven residents from the adjacent houses were later allowed to return to their homes. The residents from the involved homes had alternate accommodations arranged. Crews contained the fire to the two involved homes, both of which were extensively damaged. Crews are currently on scene extinguishing hot spots and will remain on scene through the night, into day. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
