Calgary Fire Department on scene for a two alarm fire in north east

This afternoon at approximately 4:00, Calgary fire crews and the Calgary Fire Department Hazardous Materials team were called to a shipping warehouse on Aero Drive N.E. for reports of a package with unknown contents, which was leaking smoke or vapour. Upon arrival, the package in question was found in the compartment of a semi trailer unit parked near the building.The area was evacuated and a safety perimeter was established. As a precaution, hose lines were also laid should the the package potentially contain an oxidizing agent. The vapour and package subsequently ignited, prompting a second alarm to be called for additional support. Firefighters immediately doused the fire, preventing spread to the building. Damage was limited to the inside of the semi trailer with some minor scorching to the outside of the warehouse. Fire crews have moved the trailer away from the building and are in the process of decontaminating from exposure during firefighting. Two employees of the warehouse are being assessed by AHS for their exposure to the undetermined substance. Fire Investigators and Hazardous Materials Technicians are on scene. CPS is assisting with traffic and perimeters at the incident scene.
