Calgary Fire Department extinguishes bedroom fire in south east

Just before 8:00 this morning, Calgary fire crews were called to the 100 block of McKenna Crescent S.E. for reports of a residential fire. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered three children outside who were home at the time of the fire and had self evacuated due to being alerted by a working smoke alarm. The fire which had originated in a bedroom, was quickly extinguished by the fire crew, limiting damage to only that room.  Smoke and fire damage to the rest of the unit was restricted due to a closed bedroom door. 14 people were evacuated from the four unit building as a precaution. Firefighters rescued a cat and her four kittens from the residence. No injuries were reported as a result of this fire and the cause is currently under investigation.
