Calgary Fire Crews respond to Erin Woods Fire

At approximately 10:30 this evening, Calgary Fire crews responded to Erin Ridge Road SE after a neighbour across the street reported seeing flames on the side of a house. Crews arrived to find a rubbish fire burning between two homes and a van on fire on the street. Fire fighters immediately evacuated the two homes as a precaution. Each home housed a family of 2 adults and 2 children. One family sheltered themselves in an Ice cream truck parked on the front lawn. The other family were accommodated by neighbours. A van was situated between both homes among the rubbish. Prior to the Fire Departments arrival, one of the residents climbed in the van and moved it on to the street without realizing that it too was on fire. Crews confined and extinguished the rubbish fire in short order and as a result, damage was contained to the exterior of both buildings. Fire fighters then extinguished the fire in the Van. Both groups returned to their homes within an hour.

 

Thankfully, there were no injuries at this incident. Cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
