Calgary fire crews respond to Chaparral house fire

This afternoon at approximately 2:25, Calgary fire crews were called to Chapalina Grove S.E. for a house fire. A neighbour, working on his gazebo in the back yard, smelled smoke and upon closer inspection, saw flames at the back of his neighbour's home two doors away.

He called 911 to report the fire and immediately went to the home and began knocking on the door. The occupant, who was sleeping at the time, was awoken and safely evacuated with the dog. Because of these quick actions, no injuries were reported as a result of this fire.

Firefighters while still en route to the address, saw smoke from a distance and called for additional resources. In addition to fighting the fire at the house of origin, fire crews successfully protected the exposures, preventing spread of the fire. There is some minor damage to the siding of one house however damage from smoke and fire to the house of origin is significant.

A Calgary Fire Investigator is on scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire. Initial reports do indicate that the fire started at the back of the home on the outside.
