Calgary fire crews battle two alarm fire in the northeast

At approximately 1:25 in the afternoon of Thursday, May 27th, Calgary 9-1-1 started receiving calls reporting smoke and flames coming from an unoccupied house located at the 5200 block of 85 Avenue N.E. Due to the volume of smoke and fire visible by fire crews while en route, a second alarm was struck for additional resources.

On arrival, fire crews encountered a fully involved structure fire which necessitated a defensive fire attack due to structural issues and firefighter safety concerns. Fire crews kept the flames contained to the building of origin and only some nearby trees had sustained heat damage after the fire was brought under control.

No injuries were reported as a result of this fire and a Calgary Fire Department fire investigator is on scene to determine the origin and cause of this fire.  AHS and CPS were also on scene to provide support.

If members of the public have any information, photos or video of this fire, especially prior to CFD (Calgary Fire Department) arrival on scene, please email piofire@calgary.ca
