Autopsy completed in Highland Park suspicious death investigation

Homicide investigators are releasing the name of a man who died after being dropped off at the Peter Lougheed Centre over the weekend.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., on Saturday, July 24, 2021, a man in his early 20s was dropped off at the emergency department of the Peter Lougheed Centre. The victim subsequently died of injuries, which were believed to have been sustained in a confrontation with an unknown individual.

We believe that the man was injured in an altercation that took place at roughly 3:30 a.m. the same morning at a Highland Park residence, located in the 100 block of 42 Avenue N.E.

An autopsy was completed by The Office of The Chief Medical Examiner and the man has been identified as Mayiel Deng KIIR, 20, of Calgary.

“Our investigators have been working tirelessly since Saturday to identify a potential suspect,” says Staff Sergeant Colin Chisolm of the Calgary Police Service Homicide Unit. “We are still in the process of examining all evidence, including CCTV that has been collected, and encourage anyone with information to contact police.”
