Outdoor water restrictions not anticipated during planned electrical work at water treatment plant

Essential electrical work at the Bearspaw Water Treatment Plant required for the construction of a pump station for the North Calgary Water Servicing Project is planned for next week. 

This electrical work will temporarily reduce the amount of water that can be supplied to Calgary and regional water customers.  

Based on current weather forecasts and projected water demand during this period, outdoor water restrictions are not anticipated at this time. Forecasted cooler temperatures and lower seasonal water use are expected to help keep overall water demand below the available system capacity while the work is underway.  

Residents and businesses are encouraged to continue using water wisely, particularly outdoors, while the work is underway by continuing to follow Calgary’s regular Lawn and Landscaping Watering Schedule.  

While restrictions are not anticipated, weather conditions will continue to be monitored, and plans may be adjusted if circumstances change. If conditions change significantly, The City will provide an update. 

This work is separate from the planned connection of the new Bearspaw South Feeder Main to the existing water system in mid- to late-October, which will require temporary Stage 4 water restrictions and indoor water conservation for an approximately four-week period. 

About the North Calgary Water Servicing Project 

The North Calgary Water Servicing Project includes the construction of a 22-kilometre feeder main, complemented by 10 support facilities, including pump stations and underground storage reservoirs. This project will support Calgary's growing population and strengthen system resilience by adding redundancy to our existing water distribution system.
