Additional charges laid in extortion series

Our Organized Crime & Offender Management Section has charged two adults and one youth in connection with a March 2026 extortion incident.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, a woman began receiving demands for money through WhatsApp text and voice messages. In the messages, the suspects used detailed knowledge of the victim’s personal and business affairs, including her full name, address, business information and information about her family members. The caller repeatedly attempted to contact the victim and made explicit threats of violence.

Approximately 12 hours later, just before 4:30 a.m., an unknown suspect fired a gun at the victim’s residence before fleeing in a vehicle.

After collecting physical and digital evidence, including CCTV footage from the area, investigators identified a suspect vehicle and several possible suspects.

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, a 17-year-old male was arrested for his involvement in facilitating the communication between the victim and those making threats. He was charged with one count of extortion and has since been released from custody. The youth cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

As the investigation continued, investigators arrested a woman on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, who allegedly provided personal information about the victim that enabled suspects to identify, locate and intimidate the victim and her family.

Kanureet KAUR, 23, of Chestermere, has been charged with one count of extortion. She has since been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2026.

Investigators are also seeking public assistance to locate a third individual wanted on a warrant in relation to the possession of a stolen vehicle used during the shooting.

Tanveer SINGH, 21, of Calgary, is wanted on a warrant for possession of stolen property over $5,000. SINGH is described as 5’8” tall and approximately 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. A photo of SINGH is available below. 

Since this series began in April 2025, there have been 51 extortion-related incidents in Calgary. Nineteen shootings have been linked to the series, targeting both extortion victims and suspects. To date, 19 people have been charged with 59 offences in relation to the Calgary series.

It is possible the people charged may be known to the community by different names, or that members of the public may have encountered them under different circumstances. Anyone with information about the extortion incidents or information related to these individuals, including known associates, is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
