Woman suffers injury in a NW Town House Fire

At approximately four this afternoon Calgary Fire crews responded to reports of a building fire in the 200 block of Edgeburn Lane NW. Crews arrived to find a moderate amount of smoke coming from a 2 story town house. The residents of the building reported to fire crews that everyone was accounted for and that the fire was contained to the kitchen area. Of the 4 people living in the Town Home, 2 were teenage girls, 1 was a 5 year old male and a woman in her 40’s. The woman sustained burns to her body as she attempted to carry a pot containing burning oil out of the building. She was treated by on scene fire crews before her care was handed over to EMS personnel. The lady was then transported to the hospital, none of the other household members were injured. Fire fighters extinguished the remaining fire in the kitchen and checked the building for hot spots and Carbon Monoxide. The fire is under investigation.

 

The Calgary Fire Department would like to remind the public that should a small grease fire start in a pan, smother the flames by carefully sliding a lid over the pan. Turn off the burner and do not move the pan. To keep the fire from restarting, leave the lid on until the pan is completely cool. Never pour water on a cooking pan grease fire.
