Vehicle strikes power pole in NW causing power outage

At approximately 8:00 this evening the Calgary Fire Department responded to 16 Ave and 68 ST NW for reports of a downed power line.  Upon arrival, fire crews found a damaged power pole at 29th Ave and 68 St NW.  Witnesses reported that an eastbound car had struck the pole and left the scene.  The resulting force folded the metal pole in half causing the attached high voltage lines to droop precariously over 16 Ave NW, hanging just a couple of meters above the road. Firefighters temporarily closed both eastbound and westbound 16 ave, at 68 St NW, while Enmax technicians cut and removed the wires. 16 Ave has since been reopened. No injuries were reported.  Power to the community of Bowdale has been temporarily disrupted while Enmax crews make repairs.
