Vehicle Stikes Homes Causing Two Alarm Fire

Firefighters were called out durring the night for a report of a vehicle losing control and striking a house. The incident on the 200 block of Arbour Meadows Close NW, rapidly escalated to a two alarm fire involving three homes. It started as a mini van lost control, climbed the curb striking the veranda of a house continuing on striking a second house sending debris damaging a third home. It appears that the debris struck the gas meter of the third home severing the supply line which in turn ignited, causing a small explosion. The result was two of the homes catching fire. Crews arrived calling for a second alarm and began to attack the fires. Homes on both sides were evacuated as a precaution. Electical power was lost to the block as a result of the mini van knocking over a transformer located in one of the yards. The fires were contained causing extensive damage to the two homes and a third receiving damage to the siding and roof. The Firefighters were challenged by the burning natural gas from the meter. This part of the fire could not be extingished due to the uncontroled release of gas. At the same time having to control and extingish the rapidly growing house fires. However, this was quickly accomplished. Police and Fire investigatos are now on scene to investigate the incident. Firefighters will remain on scene through the night watching for hot spots.
