Update on State of Local Emergency
Transit:
Calgary Transit is pleased to announce the south CTrain line (201) between Heritage Station and City Hall Station will reopen at the start of service Wednesday, July 3. Chinook Station remains closed as part of an on-going redevelopment project, with shuttle bus service to Chinook available at 39 Avenue Station.
Heatwave & Power:
Extreme high temperatures, combined with a number of other factors, contributed to a record demand for electricity throughout the province today. The Alberta Electric System Operator is asking Albertans to voluntarily reduce consumption through the peak evening hours to help ease demand.
Vulnerable Citizens:
Work continues to reopen flood impacted facilities that provide emergency shelter and services to Calgary’s vulnerable citizens. Monday, Centre of Hope reopened and was reoccupied.
Returning these populations to their homes helps relieve some of the pressure our Reception Centres have been working under. Yesterday, 660 displaced citizens were in the Reception Centres.Today, that number is down to 517.
The number of clients served at the peak was approximately 2,000.
River Safety:
On behalf of the Calgary Fire Department, citizens are reminded to stay away from the river banks and stay off the water. Hazardous debris is not easily visible and banks remain unstable. Although water levels have dropped and the Elbow may appear safe, boards with nails, metal wire and other dangerous material may still be contained within the river. Please stay away.
River flows at 5 p.m. Tuesday:
- Bow below Bearspaw Dam at 400 cms
- Elbow below Glenmore Dam at 35 cms
- Flow below confluence of rivers at 435 cms
