Update gas line break in Kensington & Crowfoot
Today at approximately 9:00 am The Calgary Fire Department was called out to a natural gas line break at the 200 block of 11 ST NW. As a result of the break and with public safety the primary concern, 19 homes were evacuated and gas was shut off to the more than 400 area homes between Kensington Rd to 5 Ave NW, between 10 St NW and 14 St NW.
The Calgary Emergency Management Agency opened the Emergency Operation Centre was opened and staffed in order to support coordinated operations at the site. The Calgary Fire Department worked with ATCO Gas and the line was repaired quickly.
A collaborative effort between firefighters, police officers, and ATCO crews is now underway to provide assistance to residents. Crews carrying ATCO ID are in the process of going door-to-door to relight furnaces. Calgary Fire Department and the Calgary Police service will also be going door-to-door to check on residents.
While this event was occurring, another natural gas line was reported to have been ruptured in the Crowfoot business area. City emergency crews responded with ATCO to resolve the situation. The Crowfoot natural gas line which primarily disrupted gas service to area business has also been repaired.
11 ST NW Between 1 and 3 Ave NW remains closed at this time.
