Two second alarm building fires occur within 45 minutes of each other.

At approximately 11:15 this morning the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) responded to reports of a house fire on Premier Way SW. Upon arrival the crews were met with heavy smoke and flames, coming from the house in question. The Fire Fighters made entry through the back door and quickly located and rescued an unresponsive elderly male occupant. This person was turned over to EMS. A search of the remainder of the house confirmed that there were no other occupants. Due to the amount of fire and a question of structural integrity Command instigated a defensive strategy to reduce the risk to the adjacent homes. At the present time, crews are still on scene, dealing with hot spots and small eruptions of fire. To assist in this task, a demolition company has been brought to remove debris from the fire scene. The investigation into the cause of this fire will commence once the area is deemed safe.

Whilst this event was unfolding, a second fire in a three story walk up was discovered at about 12:05. The location of the second fire was Edenwold Heights NW. Due to large occupancy; a second alarm was also called for this fire. The fire was contained to the apartment of origin and quickly extinguished. All the occupants with the exception of the one apartment have been allowed to re-enter their homes. The cause of this fire is under investigation.
