Two Residents Sent to Hospital after Two Alarm Fire

Just after 7:00 p.m. this evening the Calgary Fire Department responded to a building fire in the 2700 block of 17 avenue S.W.. First arriving crews found a well developed fire on the fifth floor of a five story apartment building and immediately requested a second alarm to assist  with evacuation and fire control. The fire was quickly brought under control and damage was confined to the apartment of origin. Unfortunately two residents were transported to an area hospital by on scene Alberta Health Services personnel due to smoke inhalation. Calgary Transit buses provided temporary shelter for evacuated residents during this event due to the sub zero temperatures. Currently traffic is being rerouted around this scene by CPS staff but  should return to normal shortly. Fire investigators are on scene and have begun their investigation into cause, and all residents aside from the residents from the source unit have been allowed to return to their apartments..
