Calgary Fire fights two alarm house fire in Prestwick

At approximately 5:30 this evening, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a house fire on Prestwick Terrace SE. Due to the large volume of visible smoke, the first responding apparatus called in a second alarm prior to their arrival. A second alarm doubles the number of responding apparatus.

Upon arrival the crews encountered a fully involved two story single family dwelling. The fire had self vented through the roof and had also started the detached garage on fire. The crews confirmed that there was no one home and then deployed a large volume hose between the involved house and the adjacent home. By utilizing elevated water streams and large volumes of water the fire was contained to the house of origin with minimal damage to the other exposures.

Although there were no injuries, the firefighters were closely monitored to ensure that they did not become over heated. The investigation into the cause of the fire will commence once the fire is considered out. A fire watch will be maintained throughout the night for any possible hot spots.
