The Calgary Fire Department responds to flash fire in SE Senior’s Residence

Shortly before 3:00 this morning the Calgary Fire Department responded to the 2900 block of 26 Ave SE for reports of an explosion. When fire crews arrived, they found a 3 story residential building in alarm with a number of evacuated residents waiting outside. Upon further investigation, crews located a smouldering fire in a 1st floor unit and a female with minor burns to her face. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher and treated the patient. The 81 year old patient was then escorted from the building with care transferred to waiting EMS crews. EMS treated and transported the woman to hospital. No other injuries were reported at the time of the fire, although one person was later assessed for an unrelated medical concern. As a precaution, approximately 70 residents were evacuated while fire crews ventilated the building. All, but the involved suite, have since been reoccupied. Fire investigators are on scene. Traffic in the area unaffected at this time.
