The Calgary Fire Department Is Issuing A Fire Safety Advisory

Due to extremely dry conditions, the Calgary Fire Department has issued a Fire Safety Advisory for the City of Calgary.

The most common and most preventable source of ignition of grass fires are improperly disposed of smoking materials. Calgary citizens are also being advised to be cautious when using any type of outdoor open flame devices.

Open burning is not permitted within the city limits, nor is the unauthorized use of fireworks. Recreational fires are still permitted in approved backyard fire pits in accordance with the Fire Pit Bylaw 5M2004.

Extra caution is advised in all of our urban parks. Areas containing tall dry grasses and shrubs are particularly vulnerable.

The Fire Department will continually monitor the fire danger risk and may change its status at any time.

To report a fire, call 911 immediately and move to a safe location. For any non-emergency fire safety information, please call 311. Prevention is everyone’s responsibility.
