Taradale fire displaces seven residents

Shortly after 7:00 this evening the Calgary Fire Department was sent to Tarawood Road NE to investigate a reported building fire. Upon arrival, fire crews found a 2 story single family home with thick, black, smoke rising from the rear of the structure.  Firefighters were promptly met by a resident of the home who stated that everyone had safely evacuated.  Upon further investigation crews located a well established fire in the basement. Firefighters entered the home with hose lines and safely extinguished the fire from the interior. A family of 3, along with 4 guests, were upstairs when the fire started. Thankfully they all escaped uninjured and have secured alternative accommodation. Unfortunately, the home suffered significant fire and smoke damage and will be uninhabitable until major repairs have been completed.  The fire is currently under investigation.  At this time traffic in the area is unaffected.
