Power Pole Fire Shuts Down Macleod Trail

Calgary Firefighters were called out just before 06:00 this morning for a power pole fire at Macleod Trail and Marquis of Lorne Trail (highway 22X). Power was shut down to the line allowing Firefighters to extinguished the fire. The resulting damage to the pole has caused the closing of MacLeod Trail in both directions, north and south from Marquis of Lorne trail to 194 Avenue south. Enmax is on scene and believe the resulting repair will take between 2 and 3 hours. Power pole fires of this nature are not uncommon this time of year. A build up of dust and possibly road salt combines with frost that can cause shorts resulting in fires. There are power outages reported in the south end of the City. The Fire Department has responded to several incidents similar to this in the last few days.
