Lightning strikes home is South West Calgary

At approximately 7:00 this evening the Calgary Fire Department responded to Wexford Place SW for reports of a house fire.  Arriving crews were met by the home owner who stated that lightning had struck the house and that smoke was building inside.  Upon investigation, firefighters discovered that lightning had stuck, and penetrated, the roof igniting the trusses beneath.  Crews quickly confined and extinguished the fire with minimal damage to the residence.  Firefighters later learned that an alert neighbour had notified the family of the lightning strike. There were no reported injuries.  The Calgary Fire Department has recommended that the family of 4 stay elsewhere until an electrical inspection of the home has been completed.  Traffic in the area is unaffected at this time.
