Firefighters responding to several Electrical Issues

Calgary Firefighters are responding and dealing with several fires involving power poles in the city this morning. Crews are presently on scene in the 4100 block of Blackfoot Trail dealing with a pole fire and downed power lines. At the same time fire crews are on scene at 9 Street and 18th Ave as well as 24 Ave. and 7th street in the south east with similar issues. Fog and high humidity combine with dust on electical lines causing short circuits which in turn can result in the fires. If downed power lines are encountered they are not to be touched, please call 911 reporting the issue. Traffic lights and street lights are being affected in areas through out the City. Enmax is aware of the issues and has emergency crews dealing with the problems.
