Firefighters extricate injured man from car wreck

At approximately 10:00 this evening the Calgary Fire Department responded to the vicinity of Temple Drive and 52 Street NE for reports of a motor vehicle collision.  Upon arrival, Firefighters found a severely damaged Toyota Echo resting against a tree with a single occupant trapped inside.  The occupant, a male in his twenties, was extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and turned over to waiting EMS crews. At the time of the extrication, the patient was conscious and breathing but seriously injured. Witnesses stated that the vehicle was traveling southbound on 52 St at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, left the roadway, and struck two trees, sheering of the first and coming to rest against the second.  CPS investigators are currently on scene.  At this time, both Northbound and Southbound lanes of 52 St NE are closed to traffic.
