Fire Department High Angle Rescue Team Assists Patient

Firefighters were called out at 02:00 am this morning to assist an injured worker in TD Square, 700 block of 3rd street sw. The Firefighters arrived to find a contract worker injured on a the top of a temporary scaffold in the food court area on the fourth floor. The worker had been do maintenance work when a pane of glass from the arched ceiling dislodged on one side causing it to swing on its hinge striking the worker in the head. The glass shattered knocking the worker down. The Fire Departments High Angle rescue Team was called in to bring the injured worker down from the scaffold platform, at a height of approximately 12 meters. The team loaded the patient, an adult male, into specialized stretcher. Then using a crane that was on site operated by Stampede Cranes raised the patient up through the window opening and moved him to a flat area of the roof where his care was transferred to EMS. From there he was brought into the building and down via the internal elevator. Using the on site crane was deemed the safest and quickest way to aid the patient saving the firefighters from having to do a complicated, higher risk rope rescue. The rescue took about 30 minutes to complete.
