Fire Crews Respond to Two Alarm Fire on 14th Street SW

At approximately 9:00 am this morning, Calgary Fire Department (CFD) crews responded to 14th Street and 28th Avenue SW for reports of a structure fire.

Upon arrival, CFD crews were faced with a significant amount of smoke coming from windows and doors of the 2 story mixed use building.

Shortly after arriving, a second alarm was struck by CFD to ensure adequate resources on scene.

Crews quickly gained access and worked to extinguish a number of small interior fires as well as ventilate the building. Three residents from the second floor self-evacuated the structure. A thorough search of all affected residences and commercial units by CFD confirmed that no other people were inside.

Residents from three units have been displaced and are being assessed and assisted by Calgary Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) to determine needs.

The fire is out at this time and an investigator as well as CPS are remaining on scene to complete an investigation.

Cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
