maltese cross
At approximately four thirty this morning, Calgary Fire Crews responded to reports of an apartment fire in the 600 block of 1 Avenue NE. Fire fighters arrived to discover that an enclosed rubbish container was on fire and the resulting smoke had entered the building through open windows activating the fire alarm system.

A number of residents of the 50 suite, 4 floor apartment building had evacuated the structure prior to Fire Department arrival. The on-scene Commander ordered Transit buses to accommodate the displaced residents. Remaining people in the building were evacuated and accounted for by crews going door to door.  Large amounts of smoke produced by the rubbish fire resulted in people a block away reporting a fire in their vicinity. Additional Fire crews were dispatched and determined that there were no other fires in the area.

The building is being ventilated and checked for levels of carbon monoxide before residents will be allowed back in, estimated to be at approximately 6 this morning. The building suffered no damage and there were no injuries at his incident.
