Fire Crews Respond to a House Fire in the South East

Just prior to 6:30 this evening, Calgary Fire Crews responded to the 6000 block of 18A Street SE to reports of a house fire. Arriving crews were met by the two occupants of the building who stated that there was no one else in the structure. Crews pressurized the building using mechanical fans and pushed a great deal of the heat and smoke out of the second story rear window. The fire was rapidly brought under control, at the same time, crews focused on the adjacent buildings making sure that the fire didn't spread to them. There was significant damage to the second story of the involved structure but neighbouring homes were untouched. The male occupant smelled smoke and notified the other resident of the problem, the two then exited the building and called 911 from a safe location. There were no injuries at this incident. Cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
