Family rescued from Bow River Rafting Mishap

The Calgary Fire Department Aquatics rescue team were called out this afternoon for an overturned raft in the Bow River. A family of five struck a sweeper which is a tree sticking out from the bank of the river overturning their raft. The adult male of the group and a 10 year old child managed to make their way to safety while rescue crews from one of the Fire Department boats pulled the mother and 2 children aged 7 and 8 to safety. Their care was turned over to medics with AHS. All of the family were wearing life jackets. This incident again shows the dangers of the NEW river. It will take some time for these hazards to be removed and caution must be used while venturing out on our rivers. The incident took plaqce south of the Glenmore overpass.
