Early morning fire destroys duplex in the community of Auburn bay

At about 0200 this morning, the Calgary Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 100 block of Auburn Bay SE. Upon arrival the fire crews were met with a fully involved structure fire and sounded a second alarm. The crews quickly confirmed that all the occupants of the duplex and the adjacent homes were evacuated and accounted for. Once this was completed the crews took a strong defensive posture which minimized the damage to the other homes. In the early stages of the fire due to the large volume of smoke and heat, crews evacuated approx. 100 people from the surrounding homes, these people were only out of their houses for a short period of time.  Although there was damage to the neighbouring homes, the fire was mostly contained to the house of origin which was completely destroyed. Crews are still on scene dealing with hot spots, once the fire is completely extinguished the scene will be turned over to the Fire Investigators who will begin to establish the cause of the fire. There were no injuries.
